Polyamide foam beads

Asahi Kasei's SunForce™ (AM) is expected to be used in automotive parts, electrical products, and other products because it can be lightened while retaining excellent properties such as heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and chemical resistance.

SunForce™ (AM) is a material that combines the advantages of polyamide with the advantages of foam. Polyamide resin is known for its high heat resistance, excellent abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, etc. Polyamide foams made by foaming polyamide-based resins are expected to be used in automotive parts, electrical products, etc. because they can be lightened while retaining excellent properties such as heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and chemical resistance.

Polyamide foam is a high-heat-resistant, high-strength foam that contributes to weight reduction and higher functionality of all products.

Sound absorbing property

SunForce™ (AM) has a macaroni shape of the beads that make up the foam, so it can impart sound absorbing properties to polyamide foams. By adjusting the foam thickness, it is possible to control the sound absorption characteristics at a specific frequency band. *By using it in conjunction with the sound-absorbing skin material called Precise™, it is possible to achieve a sound absorption rate of 0.5 or higher at 1000Hz.

Compatibility between high strength and light weight

SunForce™ (AM) has high strength and rigidity even at high foaming magnification because the membrane between the cells does not break during the foaming process, and can be used without a support. Therefore, in addition to reducing the amount of resin used, no support is required, so it is expected to have a light weight effect.

Adiabaticity

SunForce™ (AM) meets all three of the following elements, thus achieving high insulation. The first is a foam, so that the amount of resin used is small and the “conduction” that passes through the resin portion is small. The second is to prevent “convection” due to the flow of gas because it is a closed cell type foam. The third is that there are many bubble membranes in the interior due to the very small size of the bubbles, resulting in less “radiation.” By suppressing these three elements, it is an excellent material.

Reducing the weight of existing parts (low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions) SunForce™ (AM) has the advantages of high rigidity and high impact-absorbing performance. Therefore, the vehicle is lighter and contributes to improved fuel efficiency without reducing the rigidity and shock absorbing performance of the vehicle body.

Improved ride comfort through vibration control and sound absorption

SunForce™ (AM) has sound absorbing properties due to the macaroni shape of the beads that make up the foam. It can respond to the growing need for quietness in vehicles in the automotive industry. In addition, it is possible to design an optimum structure in which the frequency characteristics are varied according to the sound source to be prevented.

Supplemental Information

As a separate grade, SunForce™ (AS) is available. SunForce™ (AS) is a spherical foam bead. By controlling the foaming magnification, foam beads can be tested to match the needs of strength and weight reduction.
