What is suction blow molding?

Suction blow molding is a blow-molding technique used to fabricate hollow pipes and other hollow components. This technique is capable of producing hollow pipes—of diameters ranging from small to large, with various 3-dimensional shapes and long lengths—that are durable and feature highly uniform wall thickness.

Asahi Kasei has developed specialized grades of our LEONA™ polyamide for suction blow molding.

Specialized grades of LEONA™ polyamide for suction blow molding

The specialized grades of LEONA polyamide that we have developed for suction blow molding are based on the technologies for resisting calcium chloride and hydrolysis used in our ultra heat-resistant LEONA Durelia™ and LEONA™ 53G series of products.

Features

Resistance to thermal aging

LEONA™ grades for suction blow molding are formable via suction blow molding and exhibit stable resistance to thermal aging even at high temperatures in the range 190 – 230°C. These are ideal constituent materials for hollow pipes intended to operate in high-temperature environments, such as in automobiles or supercharger air ducts.

Resistance to hydrolysis (ensuring compatibility with long-life coolants) and to calcium chloride

LEONA™ grades for suction blow molding are resistant to hydrolysis and highly resistant to calcium chloride.

 

Indeed, these materials employ the powerful technology developed by Asahi Kasei to create hydrolysis-resistant and calcium-chloride-resistant polyamide-based injection-modeling materials for radiator tanks. The combination of these superior resistance properties with formability via suction blow molding makes these grades ideal materials for pipes carrying coolant liquids in automobiles and refrigeration systems.
